Snow & Cold Weather Reminders

Classes will continue to have outdoor recess time even as the weather changes and temperatures begin to fall. Please be sure your child comes to school dressed for outdoor play in winter conditions. Proper clothing helps to keep children warm, dry and comfortable. Layering is key.

We recommend dressing your child in multiple layers:
  • Base layer: long sleeve shirt and pants
  • Middle layer: sweater or fleece for extra warmth
  • Outer layer: warm coat, snow pants, boots, hat, gloves or mittens (mittens are usually easiest for preschoolers)

Please also send: extra socks and a change of clothes in case items get wet during play.
These items are needed even if there is no snow on the ground. We often play on cold or damp surfaces, and having warm outerwear helps make outdoor time safe, warm, and fun.

you need help getting any of these items, please reach out-we're happy to help so every child can enjoy outdoor time safely.

Community Happenings

  • Heat Assistance

  • Family Access Community Connection
is invested in helping to empower families by providing access to quality educational experiences for all young children. Through their programs, they build literacy rich homes, support parents and guardians in understanding their child's development, as well as their importance as their child's first teacher. Additionally, their programs offer opportunities for families to connect with each other and to resources in the community.

All of the programs are free for children from birth to age 6 with a parent/guardian.
Siblings are always welcome!

Wayland Dads – Dad & Kid Saturday Morning Drop-In
A favorite Wayland Dads tradition is back! Volunteer dads open the Loker School gym for play and social time for preschoolers through 3rd graders. We roll out mats, open the big room, and bring out toys for the younger ones — while dads enjoy coffee and bagels (free of charge), thanks to the Wayland Dads Golf Tournament and our generous sponsors. Learn more at our website -https://www.waylanddads.org/drop-in

Remaining 2025–26 Drop-In Dates after December 6 are:
  • January 10
  • February 7
  • March 7
We’re always looking for more dad volunteers to help open and close the gym. The WCPA covers insurance, and Wayland Dads provides the janitor, coffee, and bagels.

Interested in helping out? Email wayland.dads@gmail.com to join the volunteer organizers list.
